Sponsorship may be initiated via a letter from the prime contractor with an existing Facility Clearance requesting the particular company be processed. The letter should include a copy of the Contract Security Classification Specification, facility clearance level needed and the requestor point of contact and phone number. Letters will be processed through the Defense Security Service and based on specific work to be completed by the subcontractor.
The Defense Security Service (DSS) is an agency of the Department of Defense (DoD) with field offices throughout the United States. The Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence provides authority, direction and control over DSS. DSS provides the military services, Defense Agencies, 31 federal agencies and approximately 13,500 cleared contractor facilities with security support services.
